Hot stone massage is a therapy designed to melt away tension and ease muscle stiffness. It can also increase blood circulation and improve metabolism. This massage lasts for about 1 ½ -hour only and is available in Singapore spa. Each session promotes muscle relaxation by placing smooth and water-heated stones at certain areas on the body.

How Hot Stone Massage Works

The idea behind hot stone massage is that the stones relaxes muscles through heat. It allows the therapist access to a client’s deeper muscle layers without having to stretch or massage body parts. By combining the use of hot stone along with a full body massage, it can provide a healing and relaxing experience. The hot stones used in this treatment can also expand blood vessels and encourage blood flow throughout a person’s body. Stones used even have a sedative effect to the body, causing the client to feel relieve from chronic pain, lessen stress and experience deep relaxation.

Hot stone therapy is performed by a specialist in this form of massage. It uses flat, smooth, and heated basalt stones. The stones are positioned along the spine, in the palms of the hands, along the legs, or between the toes, depending on the needs of the client. Basalt stones are mostly from from river beds, and are commonly used for massage since they are rich in iron content that can retain heat.

During the treatment, the spa therapist will warm the stones in hot water until they reach the proper temperature. Note that the stones have a precise temperature that ranges between 120 and 130 degrees Fahrenheit. In case you feel any discomfort as the stones are being placed, don’t hesitate to inform the spa therapist.

This massage may start with a Swedish massage technique in order to prepare the muscles for the treatment. After this, the therapist will then place the stones on certain acupressure points on the body. The warmth will help relax your muscles, providing deeper pressure once the massage starts. After a few minutes, the stones will be removed and the therapist will start the massage. Using a massage oil, the therapist will use a combination of strokes and various techniques, as he or she massages your back, neck, arms and legs. Again, you should always inform your spa therapist if you feel that the stones are too hot or the massage pressure is too intense.

How to Prepare for the Hot Stone Massage

Just like availing any other massage in a Singapore spa, do your best to arrive at least 10 minutes than your booked schedule to allow yourself some time to relax. If this is your first time at a certain spa, you may be asked to complete a health questionnaire, get a tour, or answer some questions. Be sure to avoid eating a heavy meal or having alcoholic beverages before the treatment.

What Are the Benefits of Hot Stone Massages?

The hot and cold stones used in this treatment encourage the body to detox and recover through increasing the body’s lymphatic flow. It also encourages your body to get rid of waste products. Here are some of the benefits of getting this massage:
